Welcome to the Zebras Class and the start of a new year. We have a busy year ahead of us and the children are already proving that they have returned with the right attitude, ready to learn and to REACH.
Our project this term will focus on the fated voyage of the Titanic and alongside this, we will be looking at reasons for migration throughout history. Our Science topic is ‘Working Scientifically’; the children will be asking scientific questions and learning how to plan and carry out scientific investigations. Our ongoing Personal Development Curriculum focus this year is 'Understand Others' and this term's focus is 'Push Yourself'; the children will be exploring ways in which they can reach strive to reach their goals. We encourage children to continue their learning at home - if they choose to do any extra work, please send it in to school- we offer merits as a reward!
Developing writing across the curriculum is a key part of Year 6, so we will be taking lots of opportunities to write in different styles. Reading is key to developing both reading and writing skills, so we would be grateful if you could encourage your child to read at home as regularly as possible. Your child is familiar with our online reading resource, Scholastic Reading Pro, and this is a great way for them to assess their comprehension of the text they are reading. If you require a new username or password, please speak to a member of staff. The following link will take you to the page you need: https://slz03.scholasticlearningzone.com/slz-portal/#/login3/GBRXYTW
Both Maths and English homework will be given on a Friday, to be handed in by the following Wednesday, so there is plenty of time to complete both either at the weekend or during the week. If you find your child is struggling with something, please encourage them to speak to an adult, again, there will be plenty of time between Friday and Wednesday in which to do this- I am always happy to help!
Please ensure that P.E kits are in school on Fridays, as this is our P.E day. Alongside this, we will be swimming every Tuesday morning until half term. After half term, we will also be doing P.E on a Tuesday.
Although it is a long way off, a date for your diary is the week beginning 13th May, when the Year 6 children will be sitting their SATs tests. We ask that you please ensure that children are in school during this week.
We have a class twitter page @zebrasclass. Please follow us and comment on our learning.
As always, if you have any questions about our learning or anything taking place in school, please contact a member of the Zebras Class team.
