Zebras Class

Welcome to Zebras class. We have an action packed term ahead of us, with plenty of exciting things to look forward to!

Our project this term will will be based around the Romans. We will be focusing on where Rome is, when it was founded, how it was run and what life was life for different members of society. After half term, we will be looking at the expansion of the Roman Empire and how life in Britain was affected. Our Science work will see the children developing their understanding of electricity and circuits, along with applying their knowledge of scientific understanding. We shall also be creating mosaics and a trebuchet.

Developing writing across the curriculum is a key part of Year 6, so we will be taking lots of opportunities to write in different styles. Reading is key to developing both reading and writing skills, so we would be grateful if you could encourage your child to read at home as regularly as possible. Your child is familiar with our online reading resource, Scholastic Reading Pro, and this is a great way for them to assess their comprehension of the text they are reading. If you require a new username or password, please speak to a member of staff. The following link will take you to the page you need:

Both Maths and English homework will be given on a Friday, to be handed in by the following Wednesday, so there is plenty of time to complete both either at the weekend or during the week. If you find your child is struggling with something, please encourage them to speak to an adult, again, there will be plenty of time between Friday and Wednesday in which to do this- we are always happy to help!

Please ensure that P.E kits are in school all week, as we will be flexible with our P.E days now that the weather is warming up.

During the week beginning 13th May, the Year 6 children will be sitting their SATs tests. We ask that you please ensure that children are in school during this week.

We have a class twitter page @zebrasclass. Please follow us and comment on our learning.

As always, if you have any questions about our learning or anything taking place in school, please contact a member of the Zebras Class team.

Many thanks,

Mrs Dewhurst and Mrs Thorpe
