Welcome to the Zebras Class and the start of the Summer term. We have another very busy, yet exciting term ahead of us!
Our project - ‘Our Changing World’ – will focus on the environment and how it is changing, initially focusing on local issues and then further investigating erosion and coastal change. Our Science topic is ‘Evolution and Inheritance’; the children will learn about inheritance and adaptation, as well as studying Darwin and his discoveries and Theory of Evolution. We encourage children to continue their learning at home - if they choose to do any extra work, please send it in to school- we offer merits as a reward!
We will be continuing with our preparation for SATs and helping the children to feel comfortable and confident about the tests. These will take place during the week beginning 14th May. We will also be continuing with breakfast club and would love to see as many of the children there as possible; it is a great opportunity to get a bit of extra support, as well as toast and juice!
Developing writing across the curriculum is a key part of Year 6, so we will be taking lots of opportunities to write in different styles. Reading is key to developing both reading and writing skills, so we would be grateful if you could encourage your child to read at home as regularly as possible. Your child is familiar with our online reading resource, Scholastic Reading Pro, and this is a great way for them to assess their comprehension of the text they are reading. If you require a new username or password, please speak to a member of staff. The following link will take you to the page you need: https://slz03.scholasticlearningzone.com/slz-portal/#/login3/GBRXYTW
Both Maths and English homework will now be given on a Friday, to be handed in by the following Wednesday, so there is plenty of time to complete both either at the weekend or during the week. If you find your child is struggling with something, please encourage them to speak to an adult, again, there will be plenty of time between Friday and Wednesday in which to do this- Mrs Thorpe is always happy to help!
We have a class twitter page @zebrasclass. Please follow us and comment on our learning; we regularly update the page with things we have been learning about.
As always, if you have any questions about our learning or anything taking place in school, please contact a member of Zebras Class.
