Pupil Premium and School Sports Premium Funding

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding with the Recovery Premium that is provided to schools to support specific groups of pupils who are vulnerable to possible underachievement due to disadvantage. These include pupils who are entitled to free school meals, those previously looked after by the Local Authority and children of armed service personnel.

We use the Pupil Premium funding to support pupils to raise standards and attainment. The funding has been used in a number of different areas, including but not limited to:

  • Teaching assistant staff- to employ teaching assistants to offer additional intervention in English and Maths in order to improve attainment;
  • Emotional well-being – to provide additional support in order to help pupils achieve their full potential;
  • Wider curriculum experience – to enhance the curriculum and to ensure that all pupils are able to participate in all educational activities on or off site.

If your child does not have Free School Meals, but may be eligible because of your family’s income level, please do contact us (in confidence) to register them. Even if you do not wish them to have the meals, this would mean the school could still claim Pupil Premium funding that may be used to help your child.

To register your child for Free School Meals, please contact the school office on

SCHOOL SPORTS PREMIUM

School Sports Premium is an amount of money which the DfE has agreed to allocate to schools to improve sporting achievement.  The funding amount received by schools is based upon the number of children of primary age at each individual school. The Sport Premium must be used to:

Increase the quality & breadth of PE & Sport provision, and increase participation in PE & Sport

We welcome the additional funding, which will further enhance our provision and provide additional opportunities for increased participation.

Further news is that we have been awarded the Sainsbury's School Games Silver Award in recognition of the excellent work we do in partnership with Inspire+. Well done to the staff and children but, in particular, Mrs Duxbury-Mead for her hard work.

Please see attached our most recent documents to find out about the way Huntingtower Primary Academy spends both Pupil Premium funding and School Sports Premium funding within our academy.
