Governors' Pen Portraits
Mrs D Coleman - Chair
Mrs D Coleman
Designated Governor for Safeguarding
Now, as part of the Priory Federation Trust, I am embracing my role as Chair of the Local Governing Body of Huntingtower and value the support they provide to which we now have access.
I have been a governor at Huntingtower for over 30 years, initially as a parent governor during the time that my 3 children attended the school and more recently as a community governor.
Along with my husband I have run a successful business since 1980. I am a qualified primary teacher and have a personal interest in many aspects of education which I follow passionately to ensure that the opportunities available to both pupils and staff instill an ongoing thirst for and love of teaching and learning whilst also providing enrichment outside of the classroom to further inspire, develop and nurture skills whether as a teacher or a learner.
I have embraced many changes during my time as a governor and feel privileged to have shared the wonderful experiences afforded to the Huntingtower community over the years.
Mrs J King - Community Representative
Mrs J King
I am a retired teacher, having taught in both primary and secondary education. I have a particular interest in SEND and in the past have attended courses to update and obtain further qualifications. I have been a governor for many years.
It is a pleasure to continue to work and be associated with an educational establishment.
Mr s platts - community representative
I have two children that attend Huntingtower, and I’m passionate about the education of the pupils within the school. I come from a background where culture and ethos are massively important, and therefore feel I can make valuable contributions in line with the school’s values and behaviours.
I am a bank manager, currently looking after a team of colleagues that are supporting customers through financial difficulty. In my role, I am constantly looking for continuous improvement across a matrix of different areas, including budgeting, profitability, impact on the local community, risk management, and networking, all of which are relevant in an education setting.
I have a keen interest in all things digital, and understand the importance of digital presence in the evolving world we live in, whether this is in the classroom, business or at home. I understand the importance of educating children around being safe online, and have delivered ‘safer internet’ discussions at local primary schools.
With a naturally curious, analytical mind, high level of enthusiasm and problem-solving ability, I’m able to act as a challenging friend to the governing body and academy by bringing my own experiences and perspectives to the board.
MR P EMMETT - PARENT GOVERNOR
Mr P Emmett
I have had a varied and exciting working life and have found myself working in education as a self-employed musician. I thoroughly enjoy working with my Students and would relish the opportunity to be more involved in the school as a Governor.
I feel I am in a slightly unique position of being a parent at the school, as well as a visiting Music teacher as I get a good perspective of the school and the children there. To bring this to the role as a Governor would be useful and bring a fresh insight.
Working in education for the last 10 years gives me a good working knowledge of the school and my previous employment gives me a solid understanding of the systems and administration procedures as well.
MRS L SMITH - Parent Governor
Mrs L Smith
I am a parent and an adoptive parent of 2 children. Since going through the adoption process and training I am very passionate that all children should be given opportunities to gain their full potential and to feel happy and safe I their environments. Being trained in trauma and attachment issues I can bring knowledge and experiences from a parents view to the table.
During my time volunteering at Huntingtower School I have got to know staff and loved seeing how the school meets all the children’s individual needs. Whilst volunteering, I obtained my teaching assistant qualification level 3 which gave me a greater understanding with regards to policies and procedures.
As a PCSO I displayed excellent communication skills, and often attended multi agency meetings. I provided a professional and confident service assisting families to achieve the best outcomes possible. Part of this role enabled me to go into schools and give talks to the children about safety in the community.
My current volunteering role is for the Early Years Alliance as a Parent Champion, I provide information about local services and sessions run within the children Centre assisting families to access these facilities. One aspect of this is to plan, run and evaluate a session promoting the importance of early communication and brain development.
I know that I can bring my strength and qualities to this role, following the principles and policies of the school providing an enriched environment for the varying needs and requirements of the diverse range of pupils.
