What an Adventure!!

Last week the children in classes Koalas and Kangaroos went on an adventure to Great Wood Early Years Centre. We had a short walk into the forest, in order to find our base camp and soon set about finding wood for the fire. All the children added wood as Kate (our forest school leader) supervised. The children then had different areas of basecamp to explore, such as the mud kitchen, weaving frame, mud writing hut, the rope swing (a great favourite of the children!) and tree climbing. Kate also demonstrated how to whittle a willow stick using a very sharp knife to make our own charcoal in the fire. The children then had a go themselves and were brilliant at it. We worked up quite an appetite with all the fresh air and mud and enjoyed spaghetti bolognaise cooked over the fire, we had helped to make. Finally we went away from base camp and created our own journey sticks by adding interesting bits to it using string. There were lots of nibbled pine cones, thanks to the many squirrels in the forest. We even managed to find a frog under a log on our walk back to the bus! Luckily nobody tied it to their journey stick...We were very muddy and tired after our forest adventure but armed with great memories and some new skills too. A great day! Thank you so much to the adults who helped to supervise the children over the three days. We hope you had as much fun too.
