Stranger Danger

It has been brought to my attention that there has been speculation regarding incidents that may or may not have taken place recently in Grantham. Taking these things very seriously I have been in touch with police and had this response:

“Police are asking parents to remind their children of stranger danger issues after an incident in Grantham. This incident took place at around 3:40pm 11/09/13 on Trent Road, Grantham. A boy, who was walking home from school, was chased down the road by a man. No contact took place and the child went home unharmed. The man was described as around 5ft 9in tall, wearing a black jacket with the hood up, dark tracksuit bottoms and black trainers. There is an increased police presence in the area and parents are being asked not to panic, but to give their children common sense advice about not talking to strangers and telling an adult if they feel threatened in any way”

We frequently talk to the children about how they deal with strangers and I have asked staff to reiterate this with them again today.

I trust this goes some way to clarify the situation and if you need further advice there is plenty available. Here is a link to some good advice from the NSPCC (http://www.nspcc.org.uk/help-and-advice/for-parents-and-carers/guides-for-parents/out-alone/out-alone-pdf_wdf90724.pdf). Another useful support centre is Family Lives (Family Lives - Listening, supportive and non-judgemental). Remember, we all meet strangers every day and the vast majority of them are fine.
