Leopards Class

We are the Leopards, a Year One class at Huntingtower Community Primary Academy. We love to learn and enjoy using our skills in all of our subjects. We try our best,  support each other in our learning, and celebrate the variety of talents we have in our class. Most importantly we try to care for each member of our Leopard Family.

Our Class Teacher is Mrs Stephenson, and  Mrs Nesbitt helps support us with our learning as well as Mrs Marsden.

This term our project work is based on Amazing Authors. We will be looking at the life, and books, of Julia Donaldson. Luckily, there are plenty to choose from! We have already started looking at some of the books that she has written and this term we will be trying to draw in the style of Axel Scheffler, as well as using natural products to make our own sculptures.

Our Personal Development curriculum theme for this term is 'Imagine', so we will be encouraging the children to join in with  games such as 'I went to the shop and I bought a...' and developing our ability to think how others may be feeling.

We continue to work on our Place value, addition and subtraction skills this term making sure that the children are able to apply their understanding across the maths curriculum. We are beginning to look at repeated addition and sharing amounts, as well as halving shapes and quantities. In English we are looking at a range of Julia Donaldson stories, and using our phonics and Common Exception Word knowledge to help us write letters, descriptions and instructions. We will be working on our storytelling skills and trying to think of rhymes!

We are looking forward to the better weather so that we can begin to enjoy PE outdoors. This term we will be working on a range of skills, including throwing, catching and team games. Please remember to send your child with a water bottle, named sun hat and sun cream when necessary.
