We are the Leopards, a Year One class at Huntingtower Academy. We love to learn and enjoy using our skills in all of our subjects. We try our best and support each other in our learning, as well as celebrating the variety of talents we have in our class. Most importantly we try to care for each member of our Leopard Family. Our Class Teacher is Mrs Stephenson, and we have Mrs Nesbitt to support us with our learning.
This term we will be learning about space as part of our 'Out Of This World' project, and we will be finding out about significant people from history, including Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake. We will be using music to stimulate our artistic talents, as well as designing a friend for Beegu. We will be continuing to work on our Personal Development curriculum, which this term introduces the idea of 'Try new things!'. We will be encouraging the children (and adults!) to step out of their comfort zones and to try something new, whether it is a new hobby or past time, club, or even food.
We will be continuing our Mathematics by working on our mental maths skills, looking at number bonds to 10 and then 20, as well as working on our doubles knowledge. In English we are looking at a range of styles of writing, including space fact files and non-fiction texts. The children will also be writing for a variety of reasons, putting their Phonics skills to good use.
There are lots of things to look forward to this term including our visit to the Space Centre in Leicester, and we are keen to see the children continue to develop their skills. Look out for details of future events in the Tower Times, and on twitter!
