We are the Leopards, a Year One class at Huntingtower Community Primary Academy. We love to learn and enjoy using our skills in all of our subjects. We try our best and support each other in our learning, as well as celebrating the variety of talents we have in our class. Most importantly we try to care for each member of our Leopard Family. Our Class Teacher is Mrs Stephenson, and we have Mrs Nesbitt to support us with our learning.
This term our project work is looking at 'The Secret Life of Pets'. We will be thinking about which animals would make good, or bad, pets and will talk about what our perfect pet might look and be like. We will be working on our Personal Development curriculum, which this term introduces the ideas of 'Understand Others' and 'Push Yourself'. Children (and adults!) will be encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and to try something they find difficult, whether it is a new activity during Continuous Provision or a tricky task in lesson time.
We are concentrating on the understanding of Place Value in our mathematics lessons, ensuring the children have a really solid foundation before moving on to addition and subtraction skills. We will be looking at finding one more and one less. In English we are looking at a range of pet based stories, and using our phonics to help us write labels, lists and captions. We have already looked at 'Dear Zoo' and used our sounds to label animal pictures
We are looking forward to getting all the children settled in to the new routines of Year 1, and to enjoying the first half term of the new school year. There will be plenty of things happening, so keep up to date by reading the Tower Times, and following us on Twitter.
