The Gazelles would like to welcome you to our class page, we are going to be working extremely hard this term and are ready for the exciting challenges ahead!
Miss Lamb is the class teacher and Mrs May will be our Teaching Assistant during the mornings. Miss Harper and Mrs Duxbury-Mead will teach the Gazelles on Monday afternoons.
This term our project is The Romans. We will begin by focussing on where Rome is, when it was founded, how it was run and what life was like for the different members of society. After half term, we will be looking in more detail at the expansion of the Roman Empire and how that affected life in Britain. Alongside this, we will be continuing to improve our independent style of learning during Continuous Provision sessions. Within this time we will be creating our own websites, producing Roman themed mosaics, completing a variety of research tasks as well as continuing to challenge ourselves with curriculum tasks.
During the Summer Term, the Gazelles will be taking part in PE lessons on a Monday and a Friday. We will be mainly doing outdoor activities, depending on the weather, so please ensure that you have a T-shirt, shorts and a zip up top along with outdoor trainers, as well as plimsoles for if we go indoors. We also suggest that your child has a water bottle with them to keep themselves hydrated when we are outside on the field. Please could you ensure that if your child has their ears pierced, their earrings are either removed before school or plasters are sent in so they can be covered up.
Homework will be given out every week. On a Friday your child will receive their Maths and English homework, this is due in the following Wednesday. Our aim is that the children will complete this over the weekend and if there is anything they need some extra support with, then it gives them time to ask us before the Wednesday hand in date. It will really benefit us if this is can be supported at home.
Remember to read as much as possible Gazelles!
You can use Scholastic Reading Pro at home as well as in School:
You can read online books and do quizzes for other books that you have read. Reading every day will also help us in all of our work and when you do hear your child read, please could you note it in their blue reading record - every 5 signed entries will earn a merit!
Another online activity we have access to is spelling shed:
On here you can practice your weekly spellings and also challenge yourself by spelling previously learned words as well as the statutory spelling words for year 5.
If you would like to know more about what we are doing, please come in and ask. Please keep your eyes peeled for any dates and further letters.
