  • High 5 Tournament

    Published 25/04/14

On Thursday, 3rd April, I took a squad of 8 Year 5 & 6 children to participate in their first High 5 festival at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre.

High 5 is a shorter version of netball, you only use 5 players and not 7 rotating your position every half a game.   Hubert H, Elle B, Sam B, Jessica B, Ellie H, Libby S, Jacob P and Heather B were all very much excited but nervous as this was a new sport for them.

Even with 3 losses, 2 draws and a win, the children worked extremely hard especially as we had large gaps in between each game.  They all took on the comments, learnt quickly at times to do their best against 17 other teams competing and learning all 5 positions, with each position having different roles!

We at Huntingtower were the only team who had not played together or played this sport at all compared to the other schools that have been competing in a league since September 2013.

On that note, they all did very well and should be proud of themselves as they not only have done themselves proud but also the Academy.

Well done to all the children who participated and 'Thank-You' to all parents/grandparents who transported the children to Meres Leisure centre and gave their support throughout the afternoon.                        Mrs Duxbury-Mead

  • Newton's Easter Success

    Published 25/04/14

A huge thank you to all the children, staff and parents who joined Newton out on the streets of Grantham over the four nights last week. They were doing it to raise money for the St Wulfram’s Church Spire Appeal and the school.

The weather this year was the complete opposite to last year – it was sunny and warmish!  Newton did his usual dancing and jigging around the streets as the kind residents dug into their pockets to give to the worthy causes.

Over the four nights of street collections the total raised was staggering.  On Good Friday, a further amount was collected in the Morrisons Shopping Centre.  So with egg sponsorship this has once again proven to be a very worthwhile event.

Thank you once again to everyone involved with this event, especially Newton the Easter Bunny, our PTFA and Mrs Sheehy, Mr Michael Bensley who once again provided transport for Newton and Mrs Bensley for organising the decorating of the float.

We have already had generous donations from local businesses, which have sponsored the float.  We would like to thank the following for their wonderful support.
