Football Cup Final

With the football season over, there was a little matter of a cup final for Huntingtower Academy that needed to be completed. After a nail-biting game, Huntingtower came back from 2-0 down to take the game to penalties which we won 3-1 lifting the knock-out 'B' cup for the first time in many, many years.

Well done to the parents and teachers for their support as well as the following players: Billy, Georgia, Caitlin, Piotrek, Harry, Jakub, Sammy, Max and Fyn.

With the football season over, there was a little matter of a cup final for Huntingtower Academy that needed to be completed.

The time had come, it was Monday 10th June 2013 and not only anxious, nervous children, we also had a nervous coach too.

The kick off was nearing and the fabulous, loyal supporters were arriving as well as the opposition.

Great Ponton were an unknown quantity although winning their semi-final 6-2 against Cliffedale, and Huntingtower winning their semi-final 2-1, this was surely going to be a difficult game.

The match kicked off, and Great Ponton were the stronger starters, although Huntingtower did have opportunities to take an early lead.

However, Great Ponton took the initiative scoring first with a great strike giving the visitors an early lead, this then became 2 and Great Ponton were on top in this final game of the season.  Half time came with a relief to the coach and with some wise words and some 1-2-1 coaching, the second half began with what was going to see Huntingtower change the course of the game - as commentators say, "this is a game of two halves". Huntingtower stepped up a gear as soon as the whistle blew, and the children soon became the team that would change the course of this cup final. With an early goal in the second half, and then a goal that was bundled over the line with around 8 minutes to go, levelling the score to make it 2-2, Huntingtower were pressing to find that winner.  There were chances by both teams to win the game with Great Ponton hitting the cross bar and the Great Ponton keeper making some fine saves.  The final whistle blew and it was down to dreaded penalties which Huntingtower won 3-1 lifting the knock-out 'B' cup for the first time in many, many years. It was a fabulous game to watch and credit must go to both sets of players for playing some excellent football throughout the match. Miss Duxbury has been planning to bring the cup back to Huntingtower all season and said after the game "what a game, the kids were brilliant and the support has been fantastic all season from the parents and teachers, whether we were home or away, and I would personally like to say thank you to you all". The following players: Billy A-H, Georgia Baxter, Caitlin Nattrass, Piotrek Kudla, Harry Edwards, Jakub Novak, Sammy Creasey, Max Jappy and Fyn Chappell.
