Huntingtower becomes an Academy

Yesteday, the Department of Education confirmed that Huntingtower was to become an Academy from 1st May 2013.

It is with great excitement that today we can announce Huntingtower will become an academy from Wednesday 1st May 2013. The Order was granted yesterday by the Department of Education (DoE).

As previously discussed with our parents and stakeholders, we shall be known as Huntingtower Community Primary Academy. You will not see a lot of difference tomorrow, when you come in, and the children will certainly not experience anything different. However, in the short term, we will be calling ourselves by the new name and there will be a certain amount of re-branding. This re-branding will be coming from money given by the DoE for this purpose.

In essence, the experiences your children receive at Huntingtower will change little in this short term. Being an academy enables us to have freedoms to spend money in areas which we feel is more appropriate for our children and community and not have the Local Authority decide for us. Rest assured, our community's views and needs are at the heart of us developing as a school, and your children benefiting. In the longer term, we can choose what our curriculum looks like and this will be based on the needs of our children. This move also enables us to create partnerships with other outstanding organisations and ensure the future of the school is very bright.

Our school has developed greatly over the last few years and we see this move as the start of the next very exciting phase in moving us from good to great!

Thank you for your support and we look forward to working together to ensure we achieve our aims.
