Huntingtower's best meet the architect

12 top mathematicians meet the architect for the new build and learn how to design a building and how important maths is

Nick Greenwood presents to the whole schoolNick Greenwood, the architect who designed the new build for our school. dropped in with some of his colleagues to work with 12 of Huntingtower’s finest mathematicians. He brought with him the software that he used to design the building and helped the children create their own designs.

The morning started with the whole school having a “fly through” of the new build. Parents, children and staff were treated to an internal tour of the new KS2 block in celebration assembly. It was wonderful for theJamie contemplates his design children to see what their new classrooms, library, studio and toilets would look like. Also good for the staff to look at their staff room and office.

After celebration assembly our 12 mathematicians went to work on the software. They designed their own buildings which included a shop, sports complex, swimming pool and school. They all had to overcome real problems, such as; they will need walls to hang the urinals!! And, they had to work out how much concrete they would need which involved area and volume. Nick also discovered that you could create a right angle with a 3, 4, 5 triangle!! A lesson in the fact that you never stop learning!Nick waiting for the presentations

Finally, the day finished with the children presenting their designs to the rest of Y5/6. Watch this space for their designs. Thanks to Nick from Mouchel and his colleagues.
