Huntingtower CP AcademyWhere learning comes to life

Zebras Class

Welcome to the Zebras Class and the start of the Autumn term. All of the children have come back eager to learn and have made a fantastic start; we are really looking forward to the year ahead.

Our project- ‘The Torturous Tower of London’- will really get the children considering what we can discover about the past from various sources of evidence. They will find out about all aspects of life in the tower across a range of eras and deepen their understanding through our class book- ‘The Executioner’s Daughter’. Our Science topic is 'Working Scientifically’; children will learn more about how to plan investigations; write appropriate predictions and interpret data presented in a variety of ways. We encourage children to continue their learning at home - if they choose to do some extra work, please send it into school- there may be merits to earn!

Developing writing across the curriculum is a key part of Year 6, so we will be taking lots of opportunities to write in different styles. Reading is key to developing both reading and writing skills, so we would be grateful if you could encourage your child to read at home as regularly as possible. Your child is familiar with our online reading resource, Scholastic Reading Pro, and this is a great way for them to assess their comprehension of the text they are reading. If you require a new username or password, please speak to a member of staff. The following link will take you to the page you need:

Homework will be given twice a week: On Monday, Maths homework will be given to be handed in on Friday of that week. On a Friday, English homework will be given, to be handed in on Tuesday of the following week. If you find your child is struggling with something, please encourage them to speak to an adult. Mrs Dewhurst and Mrs Thorpe are always happy to help!

We have a class twitter page @zebrasclass. Please follow us and comment on our learning; we regularly update the page with things we have been learning about.

As always, if you have any questions about our learning or anything taking place in school, please contact a member of Zebras Class.

Many thanks,

Mrs Dewhurst and Mrs Thorpe
