Welcome to the Kangaroos class!
We are one of two Reception classes at Huntingtower CP Academy as we learn and play alongside the Koalas class. Our teachers are Mrs. Giles and Mrs Goddard-Tate, and our teaching assistant is Mrs. Jappy. We also have lots of other adults who help us throughout the day.
We have a fabulous setting which has many different learning areas including role play, writing, painting, maths, reading, water, sand, puzzles, games, computers, small world and construction. We love to learn through play and we even have our very own outdoor learning area. Please take a look at the photographs of our classroom within our class gallery page.
We are always very busy at school and we begin each day with our morning Skills Workshop. We learn to read and write by taking part in Read Write Inc phonics lessons, and we also take books home to practise reading with our parents. We love Mathematics too and enjoy having a problem to solve!
In the afternoons, we focus on our project/themed learning. Our first project of the year is ‘Toys,' and we will be enjoying the Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs stories collection as part of this. This term, the Kangaroos and Koalas are looking forward to taking part in a charity event to raise toy donations for the Rotary Shoebox appeal. The children will also be investigating old toys by using artefacts from the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. Towards the end of the project, we will be having a 'Bring in a Toy' day for the children to celebrate all of our toys themed learning.
